When Harry accidentally chains himself to a tree in Bates Park, he's perceived as an activist and drafted to run for city council with Sally and Tommy as his political advisers. Dick thinks that since he's brilliant he should have more than one vote. Harry's ruthless opponent is Gansmiller, the incumbent, who enlists Officer Don to get some dirt on Harry, but there's nothing to be found. Dr. Albright says Harry has her vote, but Dick says he'll go with Gansmiller; he doesn't want to squander his one precious vote on Harry. Officer Don warns Sally that the campaign could turn ugly, as Gansmiller tries to bribe Harry to drop out of the race and a paid political announcement links Harry with the Mafia. And while Harry loses the election, Dr. Albright is elated that she received one write-in vote.
