We
see Dick in a panic at the Super Bowl saying that the big women
are angry and things are about to blow. Then a flashback: for no
apparent reason, Rutherford has been overrun by breathtakingly beautiful
women. As if by magic, suddenly every nerd has his own stunning
girlfriend. The aliens are no exception: Dick has Gabriella, a beautiful
Russian; Tommy has Chloe, a sexy redhead; Harry has Mascha, a dazzling
brunette. Even Office Don has Kirsta, yet another stunner. Sally’s
fit to be tied and convinced that something’s seriously amiss, but
the men are oblivious and spend all their time showering the women
with lavish gifts. Harry’s the only holdout; his feelings for Mascha
are deeper and go beyond consumer goods (though he does present
her with a macaroni necklace and makes her a mushy videotape). Strangely,
Mascha is touched. Mary is also puzzled by what’s going on in town,
but she’s thrilled and excited when she receives two tickets to
the Super Bowl from a former student whose team will be playing.
She invites Nina to be her guest. At Johnny Foam’s, in the women’s
room, Sally overhears some of the gorgeous women discussing their
plan for world domination, but despite her urgent warnings the men
are too smug to believe that things aren’t as they seem. Sally has
no choice but to infiltrate the group (later identified as Venusians)
and try to save the planet. Sally hides in the women’s room where
the beautiful ones are communicating with their leader, Prell, through
the vanity mirror; she instructs them to go to California to complete
their mission. Sally is discovered and seized, and the Venusians
threaten to kill her; she insists that she wants to be one of them,
and they somewhat reluctantly agree on the condition that she’ll
submit to a makeover. Just as suddenly as the fabulous beauties
appeared in Rutherford, now they’re leaving. Sally gives Dick a
note disguised as a grocery list and pointedly tells him to have
a good look at it, but Dick doesn’t get it. All the men are devastated
that they’ve been abandoned, and the aliens are the saddest of all.
But they find a compact that one of the Venusians has left behind
and realize it’s a transmitter, finally get the significance of
Sally’s note and take off to California in the Rambler to save her.
Dick, Harry and Tommy track the women across country and intercept
a message from Prell that they’ll be at an exit off Route 66 the
following day. Harry spots Mascha looking at jewelry, and she tells
him that something big is going to happen Sunday in San Diego at
the Super Bowl. Sally has been forced to undergo a series of tests
including walking a runway, giving attitude and starving herself
and is at last accepted as one of the Venusians. Albright and Nina
are staying at a San Diego hotel where participants in the half-time
show are also staying, and the two women are being driven nuts.
When his attempts to buy tickets at the box office three hours before
the game fails, Dick breaks into Mary’s and Nina’s room, steals
their Super Bowl tickets and substitutes tickets to Sea World. At
the stadium, Dick and Harry use the tickets and smuggle Tommy in
dressed as a baby. The aliens follow some Venusians into the restroom
and are immediately whooshed into the Venusians’ lair below, captured
and tied up. There they encounter Prell and Sally, who appears to
be brainwashed, and the others. Prell informs the aliens of the
Venusians’ intention to loot the planet of all the good stuff by
hypnotizing all the men to do their bidding. Their master plan is
to be accomplished by hijacking a satellite and running their custom
made beer commercial (during which, their research indicates, men
are most susceptible to suggestion). Sally puts in the tape, but
instead of a beer commercial it’s Harry’s tape for Mascha. Sally’s
not brainwashed at all, she reveals, she’s been undercover to stop
the Venusians. Furious, Gabriella engages Sally in a kung fu battle
and beats her. The Venusians leave the aliens in the control room,
which is about to explode, but Mascha comes back, saves them and
helps them divert the Venusians’ transport ship, stranding the Venusians
on earth. Mascha wants to stay in Rutherford with Harry, but he
insists (a la Humphrey Bogart in "Casablanca") that she take an
appliance repair job she was offered in Phoenix.
