Dick
decides that the aliens are not spending enough time together as
a family and proposes a camping trip with just the four of them
and no outsiders. Sally, Harry and Tommy are not enthusiastic but
agree to go. When Mary finds out about the trip, she drops so many
broad hints that Dick feels compelled to invite her. On the day
of the trip, Mary arrives with her gear, completely unaware that
no one knows she’s been invited, and receives a chilly reception,
particularly from Sally, who would love to have asked Don. They
decide to bail, but Dick says they’re all going, and that’s an order.
At the campsite, the aliens struggle to set up their tent. Mary
volunteers to help but Sally won’t hear of it. Dick’s attempt at
fishing is unsuccessful, and later Mary prepares a lovely fish dinner
for herself while the aliens look on hungrily. Dick is sick of everyone’s
negative attitude and lets them know it. The next morning Mary suggests
that since everyone is angry with him, so he’s decided to leave.
Dick, who has been asleep in the woods, awakens to find himself
tied down by ropes. He’s been "captured" by a troop of Beaver Scouts
who delight in torturing him while their scoutmaster is sleeping
off a 12-pack in a canoe nearby. Dick talks the scouts into freeing
him, dazzles them with his rhetoric and establishes himself as "king
of the revolution." In their attempt to search for Dick, the other
aliens have gone in a circle and ended up back at the campsite.
Mary joins them and they begin again. They are intercepted by some
of the scouts who lead them to Dick, who has ensconced himself as
a jungle overlord in the manner of Marlin Brando in "Apocalypse
Now." They take him back to their campsite, and Mary teaches them
how to toast marshmallows.
