When Nina leaves Dick's grade reports on the computer and he has no idea how to retrieve them, it's clear that he's a physics professor who's computer illiterate. Vicki's been trying to get pregnant for a month with no success, so she and Harry visit a clinic; they soon realize that the clinical approach to making love takes away the fun and creates another kind of problem. Dick can't accept that he, a superior being, can't operate a computer; he returns his old computer to the electronics store and insists that it's broken. Sally and Tommy go shopping for a new TV, but when they get it home they decide that they really need to go digital. Mary tries to help Dick unravel the mysteries of the computer; when he discovers the Internet he's hooked. Tommy and Sally determine that what they really need is a big screen TV, while Dick creates his own website and invites his class to log on for a small fee. Vicki drags Harry back to the doctor who wants to do more tests on him; Harry takes a stand and says that if they make a baby it will happen naturally.
Tommy and Sally feel the need to upgrade their speaker system; their investment now totals forty-five thousand dollars and Tommy's still not satisfied. Dick has become an Internet addict, never leaving his computer for days at a time. When he finally stumbles outdoors, he's overjoyed to see human faces. The aliens return all their electronic equipment and conclude that technology will never replace humanity.
