When
Dick smashes the Rambler into a tree, Mary assumes he’s insured,
but he isn’t. He pretends he has the same agent as Mary and when
the agent drops by, Dick is annoyed to discover that it’s necessary
to buy the insurance before the accident. He thinks the whole insurance
business is a scam and wants no part of it, but when Gary, the agent,
encounters Harry, he immediately recognizes a potential client.
Dick rents a car and falls in love. He especially loves the FM radio,
the automatic door locks and windshield washer. When Don sees that
Dick didn’t list an insurance company in the accident report, Dick
tells him he doesn’t have any. Don says that the law requires him
to be insured Harry, on the other hand, thinks Gary is his new best
friend and signs up at once. The Aliens decide that they must have
new wheels. Dick sells the Rambler to a body shop for $400 but catches
himself saying goodbye to the car as he walks away. Immediately
after the Rambler is gone, the Aliens start missing it, but try
to convince themselves that a new car is what they really need.
Harry is upset that since he bought the insurance, his new friend
Gary is no longer returning calls. Harry feels so rejected that
he goes to the insurance office and begins signing up with another
agent for every kind of insurance imaginable. The Aliens go to the
body shop to visit their old friend. They only have a few minutes
because a tow truck is coming to take the Rambler away. But Harry
jumps in front of the tow truck which knocks him down. Harry is
in a lot of pain but the Solomons are elated because Harry is insured
and the insurance money will pay for fixing the Rambler.
