Dick
and Mary attend a charity auction benefiting an orphanage. Dick,
caught up in the way the winning bidders are applauded and congratulated,
outbids Strudwick for an expensive item. Once the thrill of the
moment is over, Dick feels gypped – he's out seventeen hundred dollars,
and all he has to show for it is an amateurish painting of two monks,
and a mailbox full of letters from other charities who also want
his donations. Dick decides to return the painting and get his money
back, but when he goes to the orphanage, he realizes that his dissatisfaction
doesn't amount to a hill of beans in the face of the very real problems
of the little tykes his money has gone to benefit. Officer Don doesn't
want to let on that Sally's snoring is threatening his sleep – and
his ability to do his job – but when she finds out, she resolves
not to sleep when she's with him. Also, unclear about some mission-related
dos and don'ts, Dick assigns Harry and Tommy the task of revamping
the aliens' mission statement.
