Tommy, in an attempt to reconcile with Alissa, goes to her house with the feeble
excuse that she still has the beer tap they rented for the senior party and he needs to
return it. Strudwick snidely tells Tommy that he thought Alissa had given him his
walking papers. But Alissa surprises her father by leaving the house with Tommy
carrying a suitcase (containing the beer tap). A few hours later Strudwick goes to
the Solomons' apartment looking for Alissa. Mrs. Dubcek observes that the evidence
points to an elopement. Dick and Strudwick enlist Mary's help and drive off to stop
the wedding. Tommy returns home and assures Sally and Harry that he and Alissa have not, in fact, eloped, but he has actually talked her into watching a scary video with
him that night. He hopes that Alissa will get scared and want a big, strong man to protect her. It's clear to Harry and Sally that Tommy's desperate, and they worry that the movie won't be scary enough. They decide to go over to Alissa's that night and make things
really scary. Strudwick is driving Dick and Mary when Mary says she needs a rest
stop; to save time, Dick insists they stop by the side of the road. It occurs to Dick that
Alissa might be pregnant, and, completely forgetting about Mary, the two men drive
off in a panic. Things are going well with Tommy and Alissa with Alissa even
allowing Tommy to put his arm around her. The movie's pretty scary, but when
Harry and Sally start doing their act outside the window, it's Tommy who gets scared
not Alissa. Dick's now behind the wheel as the two professors continue their
pursuit of Tommy and Alissa. Dick takes his eyes away from the road, and, to
Strudwick's horror, hits a deer. Giving up temporarily, they rent a motel room and go
have dinner at a nearby diner. Back at the Strudwick house, Sally and Harry decide
they haven't been scary enough. Officer Don shows up and tells Alissa that they've
found her father's car abandoned on the interstate, smashed and covered in blood.
They also found the body of a deer nearby. Furthermore, her father was spotted
checking into a motel on Route 4. Alissa is relieved that her dad is still alive.
Mary calls the Strudwick house from a roadside pay phone; Tommy answers the
phone and Mary screams, "Solomon, Strudwick, I'm going to kill you."
A terrified Tommy hangs up. Officer Don bursts into Strudwick's motel room and
finds that he's sharing a bed with Dick. Harry and Sally continue their antics
outside the Strudwicks' window. Tommy and Alissa, horrified, watch a masked
Harry flail menacingly. Tommy's so scared he pushes Alissa toward the window
and tells them to take the girl. Don returns with Dick and Strudwick who quickly
learn that Alissa is not pregnant and there has been no elopement. Dick, who found
he really liked the idea of being a grandfather, can't be more disappointed. And
in spite of Harry and Sally's good intentions, their "matchmaking" results in
Alissa breaking up with Tommy for a second time.
