Episode #608 "Dick's Ark"

SYNOPSIS:

When Mary tells Dick that she wants some time apart from him, he thinks it's all over between them until Nina explains that taking time apart is what healthy couples do. Sally's upset that Harry ruined her suede coat while walking in the rain; he explains that the guy on Channel 10 said it was going to be sunny. That coat cost four hundred dollars, so Sally goes to the station looking for someone to foot the bill. It's clear to the people Sally meets at Channel 10 that she knows far more about predicting the weather than any of them, so they offer her a job as the weather girl. In Mary's absence, Dick informs Harry that they'll be hanging out with a pitcher of mai tais. Soon Harry decides that they too might need a little time apart. Sally, who's now calling herself Sally Storm, is having a great time as the weather girl. The station manager tells her that now it's time for some witty on-air banter between her and Chaz, the anchor guy. Sally goes for it and proceeds to humiliate Chaz with comments about his wig and the observation that he might have an eating disorder. Dick tells Sally that she's too accurate; soon she'll be under scrutiny by the FBI and compromise the mission. She needs to quit immediately. Sally says Dick's just jealous because he's never been on TV. Sally looks at her weather chart and sees a series of tornados heading toward Rutherford. The town will be leveled. Dick orders her to predict mild temperatures and sunny skies. Dick shows Harry and Sally a bomb shelter on the Pendleton campus where they can take shelter from the tornados. Each of the aliens is allowed to choose one person to accompany them. Sally brings Don. Harry goes shopping for supplies and invites Cheryl, the check-out girl back to the shelter. Dick enlists Nina's help to get Mary to the shelter giving Nina the impression that Dick may be staging an intervention to confront Mary about her drinking problem. At the shelter, Dick begins a speech about why they're gathered together when Nina interrupts, telling Mary that they're not here to judge her. Mary says she just wanted some time apart, and here she is trapped in a bomb shelter with Dick and all his family. She has problems alright, but the have nothing to do with alcohol. Sally looks outside, and the weather is perfect. So much for her prediction. Everyone leaves the shelter, and Dick decides that Mary's a little crabby, and maybe he's the one who needs some time apart.
