The aliens are trying to process the fact that their mission has been cancelled. They're involved in too many things to leave earth right now, and how will they say goodbye. Harry suggests that since they have to leave Saturday night, maybe they should throw a party. They agree, and Dick says that they don't have to mention that they're leaving or that they're aliens. Don brings some muffins over for Sally to try. Sally tells him she's been undercover for years (though she can't explain her mission), and she's going to rebuild him from the ground up. Dick talks to his class about long-distance relationships, and Caryn confides that in her experience they're doomed to fail. Dick rushes out saying that he has to act quickly. Tommy tells Harry that his attempts at putting together a party are pathetic. They need entertainment and jumbo, and they can max out their credit cards to do the party right. At Rutherford's planetarium, Dick breaks the news to Mary that he's leaving on Saturday. He wants her to go with him, but she isn't sure she could do it. He points out that she doesn't want to start dating again at her age, and Mary changes her mind. She'll go. A montage follows in which Sally whips Don into shape. Don's ready to be a cop again. Dick tells Sally that he's taking Mary with them. She's not thrilled, but she's okay with it as long as Mary rides on the hump. It's time for the party, and the apartment's decorated in an elaborate space theme. Tommy's been pretending that leaving is no big deal, but he breaks down in the kitchen; he doesn't want to go at all. Judith, Nina and Mrs. Dubcek arrive wearing elaborate space-themed costumes. Strudwick arrives dressed as a French fop. He's furious, because Dick told him the party was a masquerade ball recreating the court of Louis the Sixteenth. It's time for the entertainment, and Harry introduces Elvis Costello who sings "Fly Me to the Moon." Mary tells Nina that Dick is an alien and that she's going with him to outer space; Nina tells her to go easy on the Champagne. As the aliens exit, they discover a huge space ship in the driveway. Dick thinks it was sent to take them home, but Harry explains that he got it for the party. The space ship's door opens and Officer Don appears; he has to issue a citation because all novelty vehicles must display a permit. Sally and Don say their goodbyes. Sally thanks Don for teaching her how to be a woman. The aliens plus Mary are sitting in the Rambler in a starry field waiting to leave earth. The aliens talk about all the things they'll miss about being on this planet. Mary jumps out of the car saying she can't go through with it; she can't leave. Dick agrees. They fell in love as humans on earth. He can do something to help her forget. He gives her a karate chop and lays her gently on the ground with the keys to the Rambler in her hand. Then he kisses her goodbye. Harry kisses her too but Dick pushes him away. The aliens join together in singing their mission's song as they disappear into space. Moments later, Mary wakes up and is disoriented. Then Dick's back, and he and Mary disappear together.
