Hilton
and Ruth are taken aback when Ruth receives a notice from Social
Security regarding Hilton's death and Hilton reads his own obituary
in the newspaper. On the way to the Social Security office to straighten
out the mess, Hilton encounters Nate, a homeless man who's taken
up residence on his lawn in a refrigerator box, and tells him he
wants him off the property. After spending hours at the Social Security
office and getting nowhere, Hilton returns home and finds Nate still
around, encounters Pauline, who thinks he's had a near-death experience,
and finds Erica eating the food the neighbors have brought when
they came to offer condolences. Hilton is deciding what should be
on his tombstone as Mr. Brathwaite the butcher arrives and declares
that he's been secretly in love with Ruthie; when Ruth says Hilton's
alive, Brathwaite thinks she's devoted to his memory. Mr. Kruger
at Social Security says Hilton has to prove he's alive, but Hilton
stands his ground until Kruger declares him alive. Back at home,
Hilton asks his family what they would say about him if, in fact,
he were really dead.
