As
their thirtieth anniversary approaches, Hilton and Ruth tell Erica
and Griffin about the wedding they planned that didn't happen because
Hilton's reserve unit was called up unexpectedly and they had to
be married by a traffic court judge. Hilton and Ruth decide to renew
their vows at a wedding ceremony like the one they originally planned;
Hilton insists that Ruth give him her wedding ring, which hasn't
been off her finger in thirty years, so he can have it engraved.
Griffin's sister Tina, who has separated from her husband, asks
Griffin to baby-sit her young son Davey while she goes on some job
interviews. Griffin quickly hands Davey off to Hilton, and, though
Davey hardly talks at all, he and Hilton bond on some level. The
wedding takes place, though not quite as originally planned: the
wedding palace is now a Chinese take-out restaurant; Ruth's ring
is lost, but found again; Pauline gives Hilton waltz lessons; Hilton
tracks down the minister in an old folks' home; and Pauline grudgingly
agrees to be the flower girl.
