Hilton
and Griffin have jobs as telemarketers, but Hilton doesn’t want
Ruth to know because she hates anything to do with telemarketing.
Hilton tells her instead that he’s Danny Aiello’s limo driver Hilton
is the star salesperson, and the boss loves him, but Griffin is
a washout and asks Hilton’s advise. Hilton says he has an alter-ego,
"Hondo Lane, who’s personality he takes when selling. Hondo is fearless,
confident and won’t take "no" for an answer. To prepare for a speech
she is about to make, Pauline has joined Ramblers Anonymous. Griffin
takes Hilton’s advice and adopts an alter-ego which he even uses
when asking a girl, Tonya, for a date . The problem is that he chooses
the name Hilton Lucas. For being top salesperson, Hilton wins a
weekend at the Plaza and wants it to be a surprise for Ruth, who
will be thrilled. Things get chaotic when Ruth overhears griffin
(as Hilton) having a sexy talk with Tonya on the phone. She tells
Hilton she knows about the telephone business and he assumes she
means his job. By the end of the conversation, it appears to Ruth
that Hilton has a job doing phone sex. Confusion increases when
Tonya appears at the house looking for Hilton (Griffin) and, after
speaking to the real Hilton, thinks she’s the one going to the Plaza.
Ruth and Pauline arrive and Ruth is mystified when she learns from
Tonya that she’s going to the Plaza with "Hilton." Pauline knows
that’s going on and takes Ruth aside and attempts to explain without
rambling. Ruth, amused, decides to sit back and see how Hilton will
get out of this one. Danny Aiello arrives, baffled by a phone call
from Ruth saying he’s been corrupting Hilton.
