Ruth
is coaching a basketball team of 12-year-old girls, The Fireflies,
at the youth Center. With Pauline’s help, she convinces Hilton to
coach the Warriors, a team of 12-year-old boys. Pauline, meanwhile,
is coaching the cheerleading squad, all of whom speak nothing but
Russian. With assistance from Erica, serious Ruth works hard to
teach her girls new plays. Her biggest challenge is Nikki, a terrific
shooter with a bad attitude who refuses to be a team player. Hilton,
assisted by Griffin, has a different challenge -- boys who know
nothing about the game, including one who’s a major hypochondriac.
Later, Hilton’s offhand comment that a good boys team can always
beat a good girls team leads to a serious challenge from Ruth, and
a game is scheduled. Two players from the WNBA stop by the center,
and, egged on by Ruth, show Hilton and Griffin what girls can do
with a basketball. Ruth talks to Nikki about her attitude and Nikki
leaves the team in a huff. Later, Hilton runs into Nikki and tells
her that her absence assures a victory for his team. She re-joins
the girls, who easily beat the Warriors.
