Episode #305 "The Greatest Gift"

As Ruth and Hilton try to remove a bat that has flown into Erica's closet, Ruth discovers several expensive items of clothing, still in their boxes with the price tags attached. She had given them to Erica over the years as gifts. Ruth confronts Erica and she apologizes, but Ruth can't get over the fact that Erica hated all her gifts. Erica insists that they're wonderful but just not right for her - she only kept them because they were from Ruth. Ruth says she forgives her, but after Erica leaves, it's obvious to Hilton his wife is still very upset. Erica tries to talk to Hilton about the problem, but Hilton refuses to get in the middle; telling Erica this is between her and Ruth. But he finally relents and tells Erica that she's violated the "two-wear rule" that he lives by. If you hate a gift of clothing, wear it twice and then make it disappear permanently. Erica goes to the café to try to make peace with Ruth, but things are still very tense. As Hilton arrives in search of his car keys, Erica has managed to make Ruth even angrier by telling her about Hilton's "two-wear rule." Finally, after the two women sincerely apologize to each other, Hilton tells them to get in the car, he's taking them to a department store to return all the gifts. When everything's returned and the money refunded, Hilton sends the two off in search of new clothes, so Ruth can actually figure out what Erica likes.
