It’s
Griffin’s first day on the job as a substitute teacher, and he’s
a little nervous. The fact that Jurnee and Kevin, who he once tutored,
are both in his class should make it easier, but they pretend not
to know him so they won’t blow their credibility with their classmates.
The students give Griffin a hard time, and after school, he realizes
he’s had to be more of a policeman than a teacher. Loretta, a fellow
teacher, tells him not to be too hard on himself, but points out
that his desire to rule the class was stronger than his desire to
teach it. Back home, Jurnee tells Hilton that Griffin is a much
better tutor than he is a teacher, and Griffin later confides to
Hilton that he’s not sure he can handle going back to the class.
Hilton suggests they do a simulation of the class so Griffin can
practice, and even the simulation gets out of control. But instead
of scaring Griffin away, the experience makes him realize that even
though he hasn’t done well so far, he really wants to teach. Hilton
points out that the perfect class doesn’t exist. Griffin returns
to work, refuses to get sucked into the chaos and gets the job done.
