Episode #416 "It's A Wonderful Wife"

Erica has given her class an assignment to write an essay on "An Interesting Person You Know" - and Keisha is stumped as to who to write about. Both Griffin and Hilton pitch themselves, but Keisha isn't interested. She perks up when she learns that Ruth used to be a lifeguard. Ruth, however, downplays the experience, saying that it was just a summer job. Later, Keisha tells Griffin that there's more to Ruth's story than anyone knows - she found an old newspaper article at the library about her entitled, "Local Lifeguard Saves Five." Erica says she had no idea her mother was a heroine - and the family confronts Ruth, saying they want to hear the whole story. Ruth, trying hard not to make a big deal out of it, tells them about saving the lives of five children whose sailboat had capsized and then quickly changes the subject. The next day, Keisha asks Erica for an extension on her paper because Mrs. Lucas won't talk any more about the incident. Erica tells her mom that Keisha has a paper to do, and Ruth has to open up more about her heroics. Later, Keisha asks Ruth if she knows where the people she saved are now. Ruth, still close-mouthed, says she has no idea and that maybe Keisha should find someone else to write about. That night, Ruth is strangely quiet as she watches TV with Hilton. Finally, she admits that she's curious about the people whose lives she saved. Hilton says they should be thanking her every day of their lives but Ruth says she was just doing her job and doesn't expect any elaborate thank-you's. What bothers her about Keisha's project is that she only thinks Ruth is interesting because she was in the paper a long time ago. Why can't a person like her be interesting just for living a good life? A week later, Ruth goes into the Hardback Café and finds it crowded with strangers. Hilton has contacted and assembled the group of people, along with their families that Ruth saved from drowning and they're all there to thank her.
