Ira
is deeply involved with his new girlfriend Holly and thrilled about
the results of the anti-aging hormones study he is participating
in. Cybill thinks Holly is trying to change Ira, and Maryann can’t
stand the fact that Ira has rebounded so quickly after their split.
Cybill convinces her she needs to fill her voids herself... find
something spiritual to make her feel calm and serene. Maryann decides
to revisit the Catholic Church, a place of peace as a child. After
Zoey cancels another chance to meet Holly, Ira asks Cybill to talk
to her. Cybill convinces Zoey to meet Holly before she decides she
doesn’t like her -- that’s what she did. At church, Maryann professes
her need for a sense of belonging. Father Lindemann suggests she
start with confession. Later, at the gym, Cybill and Maryann run
into Ira, Holly and Zoey. While Zoey searches for two treadmills
together for her and Holly, Ira exhibits his new-found masculinity
as he tries to fend off a jock for Cybill. This macho behavior earns
Ira a black eye. Later that night, Cybill shows up at Ira’s house,
worried that he hasn’t been the same since he has been part of that
hormone study. She believes that sooner or later Holly’s going to
meet the real Ira. This conversation makes Ira confront Holly: would
she still like him if he wasn’t on hormones? Holly informs Ira that
he is part of the control group of the study, the ones that are
taking placebos. Stunned by his natural virility, he asks Holly
to marry him. When Cybill learns of the marriage and Holly advising
Zoey to play dumb to get a guy, she seeks out Maryann during confession.
Maryann convinces Cybill to speak to Ira about it... and get out
of the confessional booth. Cybill first has a talk with Zoey, who
proves to be smart enough not to listen to Holly, then she confides
in Ira about her dislike for Holly. She won’t lie to Ira but does
agree to be his best man at his wedding. Maryann decides the Catholic
Church is not for her after the father tells her to find it in her
heart to forgive Dr. Dick.
