Cybill
accompanies Maryann to Richard Thorpe’s office. Maryann is surprising
Richard with a Tiffany watch. Terence Woodruff, the director of
the movie "Punchout," enters. He’s brining in his cat, Max, to be
neutered. Cybill finds out Terence is directing a miniseries "Sunset
Serenades." Cybill pitches herself for the role of Mother Superior.
Terence tells Cybill he is looking for somebody with a little more
depth and range. A Conservatory professor, Julia, has taken a special
interest in Zoey’s piano playing. When Julia arrives at Cybill's
house, Ira is instantly smitten by her beauty. She has read Ira’s
book Lowenstein’s Lament, but when Ira fishes for praise, she gives
him none. Ira goes to the kitchen and tells Maryann and Cybill that
Julia didn’t comment on his book she’d read. Maryann peers into
the living room and sees the professor is beautiful, so no wonder
Ira is trying to get her approval. Cybill and Maryann get into a
discussion about marriage and their pact if either of them considers
marriage, the other has to talk them out of it. Cybill questions
Maryann if she and Richard are seriously considering marriage. Maryann
tells her they’re not. Cybill tells her to consider the option of
a permanent engagement. At Richard’s office, Cybill is dressed as
a matronly woman. She finagles a seat next to Terence, and attempts
to "audition" for the role of Mother Superior in his new movie.
He recognizes her in disguise. Meanwhile, Richard doesn’t recognize
Cybill, and confesses he’s about to propose to Maryann. Cybill returns
home, still in matronly dress. She confesses to Ira she found out
Richard is going to propose to Maryann. Should she intercept and
tell Maryann? Ira advises her not to, but Cybill goes anyway. Ira
enters the living room where Zoey and Julia are practicing the piano.
Julia confesses she disliked Ira’s book, but agrees to a date. Maryann
and Richard are at the Trattoria. Cybill enters, still in matronly
grab, just as Richard is about to propose to Maryann. Cybill fakes
a heart attack and requests Maryann’s assistance. Cybill tells Maryann
her own thoughts against marriage shouldn’t dispel Maryann and Richard’s
marriage plans. Maryann confesses to Cybill she isn’t sure if she
really wants to marry Richard , but when Richard actually proposes,
Maryann says yes.
