Episode #325 "Mother’s Day"

SYNOPSIS:

Cybill’s mother, Virginia comes to visit Cybill and the girls for Mother’s Day. Cybill videotapes the dinner celebration. Cybill and Virginia are at odds throughout the entire meal. Maryann is in attendance, but Justin and Richard are not. Justin is helping a whale that has washed up on shore and Richard is performing emergency surgery on William Shatner’s terrier. (William’s dog ate his hairpiece.) And as always, Ira is there. Later, Maryann and Justin are fighting constantly, as are Cybill and Virginia. Cybill and Maryann commiserate. But after watching Cybill play an old woman, Maryann comments that she never noticed how much Cybill was like Virginia. Cybill is horrified! "I have worked my entire life to break away from every aspect of her lifestyle." Of course, Virginia, who has also come to watch Cybill tape her scene, over hears Cybill’s declaration and leaves upset and hurt. To make things worse, Cybill then insults Joan’s acting and Joan overhears. Then Joan leaves upset and hurt. When Cybill and Virginia arrive at home, Rachel catches their argument on tape. She plays the tape for Zoey and Justin. Now Rachel and Zoey are concerned that they may be like Cybill. Rachel and Zoey are now horrified! Justin complains to Zoey about Maryann, but Zoey is unsympathetic. After all, she hasn’t been able to complain about Cybill for a whole week. At the airport, Cybill waits for her mother to "turn around and heave a huge wad of guilt" at her. When Virginia does heave a guilt wad, Cybill finally gets her to "cut the ‘ Steel Magnolias crap." "I didn’t want to be like me either. But my mama didn’t give me any choice." Virginia continues to explain, saying that she gave Cybill her choices. Cybill has a career, her freedom. Cybill has a life the Virginia envies and is proud of. And if Cybill’s daughters turn out half as good as Cybill, then maybe it’s because Cybill is a little bit like Virginia. Cybill is blown away. That was the best fight she and Virginia ever had. Meanwhile, Maryann decides that in order to save / salvage her relationship with Justin, she must kick him out of the house. Unfortunately, Justin has no money and will not accept money from either she or his father. If only there we re someplace he could stay… How about Cybill’s garage apartment? Justin will have to fix it up. And Maryann will have to eat a big bowl of Cybill’s bean casserole. And only if it’s okay with Zoey. Zoey seems less then thrilled, but for some reason, Cybill thinks she’s crazy about the idea.
