As
a result of menopause, Cybill is having hot flashes, forgetting
things, and feeling every emotion very intensely. These symptoms
are compounded when her mother comes to visit and she isn’t cast
in the sequel for a movie she did ten years ago called "Monday’s
Child." In an effort to control things, she consults an acupuncturist,
eats estrogen rich foods and keeps a menopause journal. Since her
mother won’t be with them at Christmas, they decide to celebrate
in October. At Christmas dinner, Cybill drives everyone away with
her musings on menopause, making it clear that she will deal with
it naturally, without hormones. Virginia begs Cybill to take the
hormones, if only to make her stop talking about the process. Maryann
lets it slip that she agrees with Virginia. Meanwhile, Ira and Julia
have arrived home from a date hoping they will make love for the
first time. Julia’s nervous because she hasn’t had a lot of experience
dating. As Ira calms her down, Cybill interrupts from inside the
house. She’s come to Ira for support. Ira tells her the only way
she would really be crazy was if she stopped living her life with
gusto. Later, Cybill heads to the gym to work out her frustrations
on a punching bag. Maryann finds her and Cybill explains how hurt
she was that Maryann didn’t support her. Maryann shares that when
she goes through menopause she wants to make things as easy as possible
– even if it means through medication. She was afraid Cybill wouldn’t
understand. They agree to respect each other’s differences. Suddenly,
Virginia enters, ready to rumble. The three women hug and make up.
