When there's a gas leak at Grace's and she and the kids move in with Rick temporarily, he decides he really likes the arrangement. Rick tells Grace there'll be another cutback at the refinery, and she worries that it will be in her department, but it's Rick who loses his job. Floyd cons Russell into giving him a raise and an extra week of vacation. Grace is worried and frustrated when Rick falls into a depression about being unemployed and is alarmed to learn from her boss, John Shirley, that Rick has been offered a job in Anchorage. But Rick assures her that he isn't leaving town or leaving her; he hopes that if he does leave at some point, she and the kids would be with him.
