Wade
and Nadine are curious about the people moving in across the street,
having seen their cherry red GTO and other great stuff. Grace invites
the new neighbors, Thad and Bailey Alford, over for a cold drink
but is mortified when Jean pulls a cigarette lighter "gun" on Thad
and Jimmy mistakes him for the plumber or the cable man because
he's African-American, while Thad is deeply affronted by the Kellys'
behavior. Russell suggests Grace invite the Alfords to dinner so
they can all get to know each other. Jimmy takes Quentin to the
barber and allows him to get his head shaved, only to learn later
that Grace has expressly forbidden it. Grace and Rick's dinner with
the Alfords is painfully awkward as Grace defends herself against
Thad's accusations of racism, but afterward Bailey assures Grace
that though everyone harbors at least some inappropriate biases,
the important thing is for people to work to overcome them.
