In
the Finnerty kitchen, Claudia's commiserating with her friend Lina
who found out that her boyfriend is cheating on her with her sister.
Sean, Walt, Jimmy and Henry are in the living room playing Monopoly.
Eddie comes in, and, when he hears about Liana, says he wants to
meet her. Sean says that Eddie's not going in that kitchen. Walt
observes that it wouldn't kill Sean to put in a good word for his
own brother. Sean says he's always putting in a good word for Eddie,
and it always comes back to bite him. Besides, why does Walt always
side with Eddie? It's been that way since they were kids. They hear
the blender; Lina and Claudia are making margaritas again. This,
says Eddie, is the perfect time for Sean to go into the kitchen
and talk him up. Sean's talked him up many times before, and it's
always turned into a nightmare. Sean recalls Melissa, Faye and Margot,
girls he set up with Eddie. They all were horrified by his uncouth
behavior. Lily is fascinated by the drama going on in the kitchen
and is trying to hang around and hear as much as she can. When Lily
remarks that Lina is needy and desperate, Eddie tells Sean he has
introduce them. Desperate women love him! Sean asks Eddie to name
one women he set him up with that didn't turn into a complete catastrophe.
Abby, says Eddie; they went out for two months. Sean reminds Eddie
what happened after that. A flashback follows in which Eddie tells
Sean he's in a rut. He calls Abby every day. She's great, but he
has to get rid of her. It's starting to freak him out. Sean tells
him that the thing to do in that case is make a clean break, end
it like a man. Shortly afterward, food platters and floral tributes
begin arriving at the Finnerty house. The cards read "In Loving
Memory" and "Goodbye, Eddie." Eddie had his buddy Kenny tell Abby
that Eddie is dead; he was pushed off the Staten Island Ferry. Sean
and Claudia try unsuccessfully to convince everyone that Eddie's
still alive. Walt remembers people kept coming up saying they were
sorry for him, but he just thought they meant in general Walt asks
what happened then. Abby walks up one day when Eddie and Sean are
playing basketball. She asks what's going on; Kenny told her Eddie
was dead. Eddie says she's mistaken. She hugs him, slaps him, kisses
him and drags him off down the street, but the next morning she
dumps him. Walt says Sean should be ashamed; how would he feel if
Eddie told a story like that about him. Sean gives up. Eddie can
do whatever he feels like and Walt does back flips to take his side.
Claudia leads Lina into the living room; she's calling her a cab.
Eddie gets up and introduces himself. He offers to drive Lina home,
and she accepts. Claudia, very tipsy, joins the Monopoly game.
