Claudia
demands an explanation when Lily storms into the house followed
by Sean screaming that he's violated her civil rights. Sean says
he thinks he really screwed up. He was coming home with a bucket
of chicken and noticed a couple making out in a car. Realizing that
the girl was Lily, he threw the chicken at the car as kind of a
reflex action The guy was Brad, their next-door neighbor who's always
around doing homework with Lily. Sean had no idea that Brad was
her boyfriend. Lily's humiliated and refuses to talk to Sean. Walt
has come over to watch the two boys while Sean and Claudia go out
to dinner. He informs his charges that there will be spankings and
sends them to the back yard to dig a big hole, which he thinks builds
character. Sean keeps trying to hook up with Brad to apologize for
what he did, but Brad's doing a good job of avoiding him. He yells
over the fence next to Brad's house, but he's pelted with chicken
that flies from the window. Sean eventually catches Brad when he
comes over to get his book bag. Sean says he overreacted. Lily's
old enough to make her own decisions. Sean's anxious for Lily to
know that he's patched things up with Brad, but she accuses him
of going out of his way to humiliate her. Sean doesn't get it; he
tells Lily he doesn't want to come between her and her boyfriend.
He isn't her boyfriend, and, besides, he's a geek, says Lily. She
was only in the car with him because she wanted someone to notice
her. She doesn't ever get noticed, especially when her mom's around.
Sean says he's relieved that all this isn't about his being a bad
dad; it's about Claudia being a leggy siren who's threatening to
destroy their daughter's self esteem. Claudia thinks is all ridiculous,
but Eddie says he can see it. He remembers Mrs. Delvecchio, a sexy
older woman that he had a serious crush on. Sean tries to console
Lily. She's much prettier than her mom was at her age. Claudia says
she isn't to blame for Lily's promiscuity. Lily confesses that nothing
much happened in the car, and Lily initiated the whole thing herself.
She insists that she's traumatized for life, but Sean suggests that
having her own phone line might ease her pain. She agrees that it
would definitely work.
