Episode #107 "Jimmy's Got A Gun"

SYNOPSIS:

Walt, accompanied by Sean, Eddie, Claudia and the kids, is in the crowded waiting area of an emergency room. Walt summons a nearby police officer and says he wants Sean arrested for attempted murder. He accuses Sean of attacking him, which Sean denies. Claudia speaks to the admitting nurse in an attempt to get Walt in to see a doctor but she knows the nurse is blowing her off. A flashback to Jimmy's birthday party follows. Claudia and Sean have given Jimmy a snare drum which he loves until he opens his gift from his grandfather, a BB rifle. Then all other gifts are forgotten. Sean and Claudia are uncomfortable. They have no official family policy on toy guns, but they know they don't want them around. Sean observes that maybe Jimmy's not ready for a BB gun, but they go outside and Walt is already coaching Jimmy to fire at cans. Sean suggests that maybe Jimmy shouldn't have the gun right now. Jimmy's upset, and Walt's insulted that they think he'd give his grandson a gift that isn't safe. Jimmy promises to be super careful, and Sean relents. Back at the ER, Eddie and Lily are looking at magazines to kill time. Lily quizzes Eddie about what makes the scantily-clad models attractive. She confesses that she and her girlfriend were hanging out at a local coffee house earlier that night and the boys who were there paid far more attention to her friend, but she tries to pretend that it didn't bother her. Sean and Walt continue to talk to the policeman, and Sean relates that he came home to work to find Jimmy in the back yard using his new snare drum for target practice and to discover that the contents of the fridge, various fruits and even the milk carton, were full of holes. Walt tells the policeman that he'd better get a priest. He's in pain and anything could happen. When Sean confronts Walt about what Jimmy's been doing with the BB gun and says that it was a mistake to give it to Jimmy, Walt counters that a BB gun is just good clean fun. The policeman just wants to know how Walt got the pellet in his butt. Flashback to Sean taking out the garbage earlier that night when he's pelted with BBs. Jimmy's shooting out the window, defending the homestead from what he thinks is someone stealing their garbage. Sean makes Walt come over to take the gun away; if Sean does it he'll be a mean dad taking away his son's fun. As Walt and Sean are arguing, Jimmy comes downstairs and wants to know who's taking his gun away. Sean grabs the gun and hands it to Walt who gives the gun back to Jimmy. Sean grabs it back and hands it to Walt. Jimmy goes back upstairs but not without first telling Sean that he hates him. Walt says the gun's a harmless toy and invites Sean to shoot him. When Sean refuses, Walt taunts him about being afraid. Sean starts to shoot but thinks better of it. But Walt starts up again, and Sean grabs the gun and shoots him in the butt. Back at the ER, the officer tells says they'll have to go to the station if Walt wants to press charges. Walt indignantly tells him to stay out of his family's business. Sean apologizes to his dad for shooting him, and Walt admits that maybe he was asking for it. And Sean tells Jimmy that he doesn't want to be a mean dad, but he does have to do what he thinks is right.
