Episode #204 "Rubber Sold"

SYNOPSIS:

Sean and Eddie are at the pharmacy and notice a very nervous kid at the checkout who’s buying condoms. Sean feels sorry for him until he realizes that it’s Brad O’Keefe, their next door neighbor and Lily’s “boyfriend.” He tells Claudia, who’s late for work, that he’ll handle everything. Claudia reminds him that when he forbids Lily to do something, she always makes a point to do it just for spite. She advises Sean to keep an eye on Lily but not to say anything. She urges him not to do anything stupid. Walt can’t understand why Sean is worried, because the O’Keefe boy is such a milquetoast. He may be, says Sean, but Lily likes him. In fact, Sean made a point of telling Brad just that recently after Lily gave Brad a hard time. Women send confusing signals, Sean tells Brad, and further advises him to act more confident, so Lily will stop walking all over him. Maybe he should throw a party, Sean tells him. But when Lily, dressed to kill, informs Sean that she’s going to a party that Brad’s throwing while his parents are out of town, Sean’s pretty sure that his advice to Brad was a mistake. Claudia can’t believe that Sean let Lily go without doing anything. Sean, however, assures her that they did do something. Sean, Eddie and the boys are in the Finnerty backyard grilling hamburgers as the teenagers are dancing and raising hell next door at the O’Keefe’s. Sean calls the cops who arrive quickly and shut down the party. But after an hour passes, and Lily still hasn’t come home, Sean begins to worry. Eddie notices that they’ve lit candles in an upstairs room which is enough to make Sean decide that he’s going after Lily. When he storms upstairs he finds Brad, Lily and three other girls playing with a Ouija board. The kids freak out, and Sean takes off. Sean then calls the fire department and reports a fire at the O’Keefe’s. Lily comes home, accompanied by the fire chief, who informs Sean that phoning in false alarms is a felony. Lily thinks her dad has lost his mind, but he says he was just concerned. Claudia hugs her, and Lily demands to know what’s going on. Brad comes in, and Sean says he knows all about what’s going on. He chases Brad, grabs him and pulls a strip of wrapped condoms out of his pockets. Lily can’t believe what she’s seeing, but Brad insists that she’s been sending out lots of signals. Lily tells her parents that they should stop being so obsessed with sex; she didn’t know Brad bought the condoms, and she thinks it’s totally lame that he did. Sean reminds Lily that a lot of parents don’t care enough about their kids to humiliate them. And Eddie and Walt have Brad sandwiched in on the sofa. They talk as if Brad isn’t there about how Walt handled attitude problems in the army. Brad gets the message then, but later Lily has to enlist Walt to scare him again.
