Episode #206 "Bang on the Drum"

SYNOPSIS:

Claudia convinces Sean and Eddie to revive their old high school band and play at her friend Lina’s wedding after Lina’s original band cancels at the last minute. It takes a lot to convince Sean, because he remembers some of their earlier disastrous gigs, but Eddie is all for it. Their old drummer, Lou, can’t get the day off, so the guys have to hold auditions. Several guys, including their neighbor Brad, audition. Brad plays drum in the high school marching band and can only play standing up. When Dean, a hunky 17-year-old public school guy, shows up, they know they’ve found their new drummer. Henry tells Claudia that he’s looked everywhere but can’t find any pictures of him when he was a baby. There are plenty of Jimmy and Lily, but he’s nowhere to be found. Claudia lamely assures him that there are some, but Henry tells Jimmy that he’s figured it out. He’s adopted! Jimmy says that the truth is that Henry’s a robot, a very sophisticated robot worth fourteen million dollars. At first Sean thinks that Dean’s a great addition to the band. The band now sounds fantastic. But when Dean starts talking about how easy it is to score with the babes and Lily spends all her time hanging out at band rehearsals, Sean isn’t so sure. The wedding reception is the bride’s worst nightmare. Sean and Eddie get into a fight, and Sean grabs his amp and goes home. Claudia arrives and tries to persuade him to go back to the reception, but Seans won’t hear of it. Dean comes back to the house asking to be paid. Sean confesses to Claudia that he acted like a jerk, because of his fear that Lily’s genes have made her have the hots for Dean (after all, she is Claudia’s daughter, and everyone knows how Claudia feels about musicians). Brad hears this, introduces himself to Dean as Lily’s boyfriend and attempts to give Dean the bum’s rush. Disgusted, Dean leaves. Sean also explains that he overheard Dean and Lily talking at the reception. Dean was complaining about all the dorky songs the band is playing; Dean wants to rock, and the junk they’re playing makes him want to throw up. Lily’s totally supportive. Dean protests that he has integrity, and Lily agrees. This is particularly frustrating to Sean, because he can’t stand the music either; he’s only doing this gig to please Claudia. Sean can’t resist irritating Dean even more, so he pretends to love what they’re playing. The music’s so bad and Sean’s so unbearable that Eddie refuses to play. He and Sean start fighting, and Sean takes off. Claudia listens patiently, but she tells Sean that if Lily has the groupie gene, he’s screwed. Claudia’s dad couldn’t stop her, and Sean can’t stop Lily.
