The Finnertys are having problems with their sewer line which runs under the O’Keefes’ yard next door, and Mr. O’Keefe won’t give Sean permission to dig on his property. They can’t use their toilet and have to line up at the neighborhood gas station, much to Lily’s embarrassment. Claudia wants Sean to call her Uncle Sal, who’s a contractor, but Sean refuses, because he’s convinced that Sal belongs to the mob. Eventually there’s no alternative but to ask for Sal’s help. Mr. O’Keefe takes one look at Sal and suddenly decides that digging in his yard is fine. Sal enlists Sean and Eddie to go to Coney Island and drop off a car for him; he won’t even consider any of Sean’s lame excuses. Since the sewer line problems began, Lily’s been taking a shower at Brad’s, but she’s getting sick of his attempts to see her naked. Sean and Eddie try to deliver the car, but the guy they’re looking for isn’t home. They’re both paranoid, and they practically tear the car apart searching for a body or some sign of criminal activity. All they find is a volleyball net and ball. They go to Sal’s office to tell him they couldn’t deliver the car and find a cat scratching at the office door. On entering, they find that the “office” is clearly a social club with some people playing cards and others counting money. Everyone thinks Sean and Eddie must be a friend of Fat Philly, since they’re holding his cat. If they’re not friends, they shouldn’t be holding the cat, they’re told. Eddie drops the cat, and the two guys bolt. They jump in the car and start to speed off, clipping Fat Philly’s cat as they go. They scoop up the cat and pay a vet six hundred dollars to set its leg. Sean thinks they’re as good as dead. He tries to convince Claudia that her uncle is a made man. Claudia tells Sal what Sean thinks, and Sal cheerfully denies it; he’s just a business man. And there is no Mafia. But when he finds out they ran over Fat Philly’s cat, he tells the guys they’re dead. Philly’s a button man and has killed people for forgetting to change the cat’s litter box. Sal will fix this, but it won’t be easy, and the guys will owe him big time.
