Episode #216 "Eddie Said Knock You Out"

Sean’s at the gym training hard for a boxing tournament. Jimmy observes that his dad’s going to slaughter Mr. O’Keefe. Sean tells them he joined the tournament to raise some money for charity and to challenge himself. It’s a way for two men to challenge each other on a field of honor. Walt tells the boys that they’ll grow to love the smell of the locker room; the Finnertys are born fighters. Walt further tells them that Sean used to fight in this tournament every year, but five years ago he walked away. It’s revealed that, at Eddie’s insistence, Sean took a dive in his last fight to save Eddie from serious jeopardy at the hands of some mobbish guys. Sean’s still mortified and ashamed. Henry can’t believe that his dad would do such a thing, but Sean protests that he did it for his little brother. Claudia’s upset because a rumor’s going around that her chest is fake. She overheard Mrs. O’Keefe telling a friend that she doesn’t know what Brad’s so excited about; they’re not real. Claudia can’t believe someone could be so hateful. Sean admits that getting into the ring with Mr. O’Keefe is going to be a pleasure; the guy’s always pushing Sean’s buttons. O’Keefe has needled him ever since he dropped out of the boxing tournament, saying that if they ever squared off , he’d turned Sean into a red-headed smudge on the canvas. Claudia tells Lily that someone had the nerve to ask who did her boob job. It reminds her of all the humiliation and teasing she got in high school. Claudia can’t imagine who would start such a vicious rumor. Lily, cringing, says she sure that whoever did it didn’t mean any harm. Before the match with Mr. O’Keefe, Eddie confesses to Sean that he fixed the fight. Sean’s furious; he wanted to beat the guy for real. Sean can’t believe that O’Keefe, who hates him, would ever agree to take a dive, but Eddie got the job done with an offer of a thousand bucks. Eddie can’t see what all the fuss is about. If Sean wants to win back his honor, it’s in the bag. Lily tells Claudia that she was sick of all the guys going crazy over her boobs. When she couldn’t take any more, she told them they were fake. The tournament begins and neither Sean nor O’Keefe will throw the first punch. They dance around the ring, but nothing happens. In an attempt to stop the gossip, Claudia shows Mrs. O’Keefe her boobs to prove that they’re real. Brad can’t believe this is happening. It’s time out, and Sean tells Eddie he’s not going to do anything. When the match resumes, O’Keefe punches Sean in the crotch. He’s disqualified, which makes Sean technically the winner. Sean, in desperation punches O’Keefe in the groin. They pound at each other with O’Keefe screaming at Sean to take the win. Sean screams back that he is winning. O’Keefe’s not getting any money. Sean sends O’Keefe crashing to the mat. Now he’s happy. But O’Keefe gets off a final shot to the crotch, and Sean’s in agony. And, unable to accept that his mom saw what he’s been dying to see, Brad tries unsuccessfully to persuade Claudia to show him her boobs.
