Episode #219 "Don’t Fear The Reefer"

SYNOPSIS:

It’s pitch black in the Finnerty living room. The power is out on the street, and Sean confides to Walt that he caused the power outage. Jimmy and Walt are scrambling around trying to find candles or a flashlight. Eddie finds some birthday candles, but Henry blows them out. He apologizes; it was a reflex action. Mr. O’Keefe comes over in search of batteries. He has a house full of guests at his Super Bowl party. Sean explains to Walt that the overgrown oak tree in front of the house was causing a problem. It swayed in the breeze and bumped and scraped against the upstairs window giving Henry bad dreams. He dreams that the scraping is coming from a closed coffin. Something wants out! Henry’s screaming was waking up the whole house night after night. A tree surgeon would have charged three hundred fifty dollars to take care of the problem, so Sean decides to do it himself. Sean goes up the tree with a circular saw, fires it up, and, just as he’s about to start cutting, looks into Lily’s window and sees her with a baggie and some rolling papers. He cuts through the branch he’s sitting on and falls out of the tree, pulling down several branches and a power cable as he goes. O’Keefe returns with two of his beefy friends. They’ve been talking to the Con Ed guy and he thinks he’s found the problem, Sean’s saw. Henry and Jimmy come in with a small Watchman TV. The guys all gather around. Claudia chides Sean about taking on a job that he was too inexperienced to handle. Walt interjects that Sean was distracted, but Sean stops him before he reveals what Sean saw. Sean tells Walt that if he explained to Claudia about Lily, he’d also have to tell her that when he confronted Lily it was revealed that the pot actually belonged to him. But Claudia comes in with the baggie and demands to know what’s going on. Lily was looking for a sweater in Sean and Claudia’s closet when a small wooden box containing pot, rolling papers and matches fell out on her. Naturally, she was curious, but she had no plans to smoke it. Sean tells Lily that the pot is very old; he did smoke pot in his youth, but those times were not his finest hours. Now Lily tells Sean that she’s taking the pot to a party; she’s already told her friends she has it. Claudia tells Sean he should have put his foot down; besides, if he hadn’t kept pot in the house, Lily couldn’t have gotten her hands on it. It’s his “security pot,” Sean tells her. He doesn’t want to smoke it, but he could if he wanted to. At Claudia’s insistence, he starts to throw the bag away, but when he gives it a sniff, he discovers that it’s oregano. Lily stole his weed! He rushes off to find Lily at her friend Alison’s house, and, in front of Alison’s dad, demands his marijuana back. Lily swears she didn’t take it. Back at the Finnerty house, Eddie tells Sean that the baggie always contained oregano. Eddie was working at a pizza joint at the time, and gave Sean oregano instead of pot because he was “looking out for him.” Later, Lily confesses to Eddie that she and Alison actually did smoke some of the oregano and “got high.”
