Episode #316 "Welcome To The Working Week"

SYNOPSIS:

Eddie's unhappy when he sees a bad review of the bar in the Staten Island Shopper, but Sean has other things on his mind. Lily's credit card charges are off the charts. He's not paying. She'll have to get a job. Lily shoots down every job idea of Claudia's, but Claudia says it's Lily's choice: take a job or lose the plastic. Lily tries working at the bar, but her heart's not in it, and it frustrates Sean. Kids now days don't want to pay their dues. Claudia tells him not to worry; Lily'll get there. But Lily bails on the job, and Sean's furious. Her credit card is gone! Eddie's furious too. The bar has gotten a second bad review in the same newspaper. But it's revealed that Eddie wrote a letter protesting the first review and signed Sean's name to it. In an effort to help his parents save money, Henry declares himself the "Energy Monitor" and proceeds to freeze everyone out by shutting the furnace off. Lily shows up loaded down with shopping bags and announces that she has a new job. She's a secret shopper for A.J. Khaki's. She's getting paid to shop. All she has to do is evaluate the stores and critique the service. She even got an advance which she gives Sean to put toward her credit card balance. Henry continues to try to help by slamming the fridge door shut anytime someone tries to look in. He'll tell them what's inside, so they don't have to look. Eddie goes to the newspaper to apologize and also buy an ad. He even brings along a cake to help smooth things over. The next day Eddie sends Jimmy out to pick up the new issue. Claudia tells Sean that now they have real problems with Lily. Claudia checked up on Lily at her new job and discovered Lily, drunk with power, treating the salespeople horribly. These people don't need to be judged by someone who's never worked a day in her life. Claudia can't believe their daughter could be so nasty. Sean agrees. The job isn't teaching Lily anything. It's bringing out all her worst instincts and rewarding her for them. Eddie flips out when he reads the new review of the bar that accuses the Finnerty brothers of attempted bribery. The bar, says the review, should be called The Red Boot-Lickers. It's too much. Eddie wants his cake back. But Sean says that Eddie's the problem. He just keeps making things worse. When Sean tells Lily that her job isn't good for her, she gives in way too easily. That's because she was fired for her obnoxious behavior by the person from corporate who monitors the secret shoppers. Soon Lily's back working at the bar and actually doing a good job. And Sean tells Eddie that he called the newspaper and begged for another chance. But the reviewer comes back and has a run-in with Lily. They might as well give up.
