Episode #412 "My Ex-Boyfriend’s Back"

SYNOPSIS:

When Eddie tells Sean and Claudia that he’s going to try doing stand-up comedy at the Red Boot’s open mic night, they’re a little dubious. But Eddie’s convinced that his observations of human nature will be funny stuff. When Lily and Brad run into Dean and his girlfriend Coleen at the music store, it couldn’t be more awkward. It doesn’t help that Coleen’s extremely pretty. When Lily makes the obligatory comment about getting together sometime, Brad jumps on it and invites the other couple to their fondue party on Friday. Lily’s furious. How could Brad be so dense? The night of the party, Lily’s making the fondue. She’s still annoyed at Brad. Sean tells Claudia that he doesn’t think he can go to the bar and sit through the “comedy stylings of Eddie Finnerty” another night. The night before, Eddie had done a routine about people loving cake. It was terrible, and everyone left. He’s really ruining business. Claudia wants to know if Sean talked to Eddie, and Sean assures her that he did. Coleen and Dean and the other guests arrive for the fondue party. Dean raves to Lily about how fantastic Coleen is. Lily tells Dean she can’t believe that they even showed up. Accepting the invitation was impolite. Dean thought Lily was trying to make up for the way she dumped him. Brad comes in and overhears the conversation. What an idiot he’s been. Lily’s not over Dean at all! He storms out the back door. Jimmy’s in the back yard in his tent. Brad joins him. His sister’s a real piece of work, Brad tells Jimmy. Jimmy agrees. Claudia asks Lily where Brad is. Lily explains what happened. Claudia says Lily’s upset because Dean isn’t miserable that she dumped him. He had the audacity to move on with his life. Claudia warns her that Brad might not stick around forever. There’s only so much abuse a guy can take before he walks. Lily grabs her coat and exits out the back door. Sean comes in and informs Claudia that Eddie has anew comedy act, and it’s a hit. The subject is Sean’s and Claudia’s personal lives. Sean and Claudia don’t think that’s funny at all. Lily gets into the tent with Brad as Jimmy exits to join the party guests. Brad’s really upset. He deserves for Lily to treat him like he’s the smoothest, coolest guy in the world. Lily tells Brad she loves him. This is the first time Lily has ever said it, says Brad. They kiss and go back to join the party. Later, Brad and Dean are alone in the dining room. Dean confesses that he can’t stand Coleen; she’s so shallow and she’s driving him crazy. He was going to break up with her until he saw how upset Lily was that they were together. He decided to hang on for a few more days until after the party. He swears Brad to secrecy. Sean and Claudia are in the kitchen when Eddie comes in. Claudia is furious. Eddie doesn’t get it. Sean said he should get his material from life. Eddie’s life, not Sean’s, Sean tells him. The next night Sean’s onstage doing a routine about Eddie’s life.
