Episode #414 "Me and Mrs. O" (Part II of II)

SYNOPSIS:

In the Finnerty kitchen, Lily’s putting the finishing touches on a birthday cake for Brad. She’s throwing him a party to cheer him up, because he’s depressed about his parents being separated. Sean comes in with a piñata shaped like a Martian. Lily tells him he was supposed to get a gray alien. Brad comes in looking very depressed. Lily hurries him out; he shouldn’t be seeing the preparations for his party. Sean tells Claudia he invited Dan O’Keefe to the party. Great, says Claudia, because Connie’s going to be there, and she’s pretty sure Connie won’t want to see Dan. The truth is that Dan’s life is ruined; he’s a wreck, Sean tells Claudia. Sean took pity on him and invited him over. Henry asks Sean where the candy is for the piñata. Claudia sends Sean out to get some. The party’s in full swing with all Brad’s geeky friends in attendance. Jimmy’s trying to be cool and impress Lily’s friend Alison. Sean comes into the Finnerty kitchen. He’s clearly shaken and isn’t worrying about the fact that he still doesn’t have enough candy for the piñata. He tells Claudia he dropped the candy outside when he saw Eddie in his car making out with Connie O’Keefe. Claudia’s furious. Eddie’s taking advantage of a vulnerable woman. Eddie comes in, and Claudia demands to know how he could do such a thing. Eddie says he was being chivalrous. Connie grabbed him and started kissing him. What was he supposed to do? Claudia sheepishly admits that she’d given Connie a pep talk the night before about getting on with her life. With Dan about to arrive, Sean insists that Eddie tell Connie that they have no future together. Otherwise, Dan won’t stand a chance. Connie arrives, and Brad notices that she’s glowing with happiness. Eddie tells Connie that they need to talk, just as she plants a big kiss on Eddie’s open mouth. An astonished Lily sees it all. She hurries to tell Brad what happened. Eddie tells Sean and Claudia that it just happened again. He’s the devil’s candy! Sean insists that Eddie has to level with Connie, because Dan really cares about her. Lily comes in and tells Eddie that Brad knows what’s going on. In the backyard, Brad is blindfolded, swinging at the piñata and missing, while Eddie is trying unsuccessfully to talk to Connie. Later, in the Finnerty living room, Brad confronts Eddie who at first protests that he’s innocent, but then, to save Brad’s feelings, says it was all his fault. Brad’s mom is so beautiful that he just couldn’t resist. Not aware of Eddie’s “confession” to Brad, Claudia tries to explain to Brad that moms have needs and desires like anyone else. Brad thinks she’s attempting to seduce him. Eddie and Connie are starting to talk when Dan comes in carrying flowers. Dan tells Connie that he’s there both for the party and to see her. Shortly afterward, they’re on the couch making out furiously. Brad walks in on them, and his dad waves him away. “We’re trying to make out, ya idiot!” “I love you too, Dad,” says Brad.
