Lily’s bored, because Brad’s working late again. It’s the fourth time this week. It seems as if she never sees him. Walt’s looking for work, but not having any luck. His twenty years at the dump don’t seem to impress potential employers Eddie tells him they could use some help at the bar. Right, says Sean, because Eddie doesn’t do anything. Lily flips out when she learns that Brad will for working the night of their friend Carla’s party. The supermarket is totally understaffed, says Brad, so he has no choice. Sean suggests maybe Walt could work at the supermarket, but Eddie won’t hear of it. Sean relents, and Walt accepts the job at the bar. Claudia’s a little depressed, because Jimmy acts as if he doesn’t know her when he’s with his friends. Sean tells her not to take it personally. Boys pull away when they get to a certain age. Claudia tells Sean she took Jimmy to a movie in hopes of bonding a little, but the adult content just succeeded in embarrassing them both. Sean’s impressed with Walt’s work ethic and with how popular he is with the customers at the bar. Lily visits Brad at the supermarket, but his boss notices and Brad gets in trouble. Lily tells Sean that it’s ridiculous. Brad’s boss is really mean to him. Brad runs over to see Lily on his break, and she tells him he has to quit this job. They’ve always had fun with no money, so who cares. Brad confesses that he’d wanted to surprise Lily but he’ll tell her now. He’s been saving up to buy a really cool car. All of a sudden, Lily changes her mind. She was wrong to ask him to quit his job. Eddie tells Sean that Walt has been giving him a hard time about being late for work and slacking off on the job. In fact, Walt just fired him! Lily’s looking at car ads, and Claudia remarks that Lily’s manipulating her boyfriend. Lily assures her that this is what Brad wants. Sean’s pretty steamed when he gets to the bar, but Walt lectures him as if he were twelve. The bar isn’t their clubhouse, and Eddie needed to be punished. Sean says under his breath that he and Eddie own the bar, but he doesn’t stand up to Walt either. Back at the house, Eddie and Sean agree that they need to sit Walt down and set him straight. Back at the bar, they learn that Walt has suspended Reggie the bartender. If Walt wants to stay, he’s going to have to start acting like an employee, they tell him. Walt challenges Sean to fire him, and Sean does it. Lily’s at the supermarket and witnesses Brad being humiliated by his boss. She marches up to Brad and tells him not to put himself through this. Nothing’s more important than their being together, especially not working with this jerk. Brad knocks over a rack of mints, and they exit.
