Jamie
and Brenda have just returned from Kevin’s wedding, and Jamie
is in tears. Where will he find another roommate? Brenda’s
not interested in moving in, but she does loan him $200 to help
with the rent; he immediately buys a new jacket with the money.
Jamie goes to the bar and is informed that there are no free beers
for him; Kevin used to buy all the beer. Steve is also at the bar
attempting to find a way to break up with his girlfriend; Jamie’s
jacket catches his eye and it occurs to him that his girlfriend
would never allow him to own anything that cool. Brenda meets Katie,
a sculptor, who’s their new neighbor. Jamie’s back at
the bar feeling depressed. He has no job and no roommate. He encounters
Steve, whose girlfriend is making his life hell; he’d break
up with her, but he’d have to find a new apartment. Jamie
tells Steve he has a solution to the problem. Steve takes one look
at Jamie’s apartment and thinks he’s gone to heaven.
He moves in immediately. Back at the bar Jamie and Steve meet up
with Brenda and Katie. Steve drinks a lot and begins to think about
going back with his girlfriend; Jamie thinks what Steve needs to
make him forget her is a one-night stand. He tries to get Steve
and Katie together and thinks he’s succeeded when Katie is
with Steve all night at the apartment, but he finds out from Brenda
that they sat up all night talking. Jamie tells Steve he’s
afraid Steve will bail on him, but Steve says the three months rent
he gave Jamie should be proof that he won’t be going anywhere.
