Jamie
gets an invitation from his old prep school to do a residency in
their drama department to teach a master class. Steve is baffled
that someone like Jamie would be invited until he learns that Jamie
has told his alma mater that he’s a Tony Award winning director.
Jamie’s thrilled with the opportunity to flaunt his ‘success’
in the face of his former teacher, Mr. Hayward, who was sure Jamie
would never amount to anything. Jamie arrives at the school and
is delighted when the headmistress orders Mr. Hayward to be his
assistant; he takes great pleasure asking Mr. Hayward to do menial
errands for him. Steve and Katie spend an evening with Craig, a
college classmate of Steve’s who has always looked down on
him, and Craig’s wife Carrie. They play charades, and Craig
and Carrie win easily, in part because Katie plays so badly. Steve
hates losing to Craig and plots a rematch; he realizes Brenda is
great at charades, so he buys Katie a trip to a spa to get her out
of the way, enlists Brenda to be his partner and schedules another
game which they win easily. But Katie finds out and is furious.
Jamie has no idea how to teach a class, so he decides to teach everyone
how to act like his idol Dean Martin. At first his conservative
class is mystified by the bizarre things they’re being taught,
but Jamie keeps them focused and has soon turned them into a mini
‘Rat Pack.’ Mr. Hayward calls Jamie’s bluff by
suggesting that the class give a performance of what they have learned,
and Jamie quits. But Charlie from the class stops by the apartment
to thank Jamie and urge him to come back and help the class put
on the show. Jamie returns, and the show goes on.
