Fed up with Jackie hanging all over him, Hyde writes an angry haiku telling her to get lost. Donna urges Jackie to give it up, explaining that Fez is to Jackie what Jackie is to Hyde. Jackie finally gets it and wonders how she can feel so much for someone who feels nothing for her. It's Veterans' Day, and Red's throwing his annual barbecue. This year he's really annoyed because Bob, who was only in the National Guard, had the audacity to march in the Veterans Day parade. To top it off, Bob's also hosting a barbecue, which Red sees as direct competition. Jackie brings Chip to Red's barbecue, and she's thrilled when it appears that Hyde is actually jealous. Donna asks Midge why they're having a barbecue when the Formans have one every year. Midge says it isn't about barbecue; it's about Bob being bankrupt. The appliance store is going out of business. Bob wants to be a big shot one more time, says Midge, before he discovers what a failure he really is. She swears Donna to secrecy. Red's upset when everyone seems to be heading for the Pinciottis. Eric informs Red that the Pinciottis have chicken. Donna and Eric have words over the barbecue competition. Donna says Red's a jerk; did it ever occur to him that Bob's barbecue might mean a lot to him? Eric, who actually thinks Red's competitiveness is crazy, sticks up for Red saying that Bob's just copying Red and, besides, Donna's just a National Guard kid. Both Kelso and Fez are bummed out about Jackie and Chip. Kelso can't believe she'd choose Chip over him. Hyde learns from Chip that he's only interested in nailing Jackie. Hyde suddenly feels protective, and when Chip calls Jackie a bitch, Hyde decks him. When she sees what happened, Jackie's starry-eyed. Jackie can't believe that Hyde defended her honor. Kitty asks Hyde if his girlfriend's okay. Hyde protests, but Kitty says it's pretty clear that Hyde likes Jackie.
Hyde tells Jackie to get her car; they're going on a date. Jackie says it's a Veterans' Day miracle! The barbecue competition rages on until Red lures everyone over with a keg.
Bob's devastated; he should have hired the one man band. Jackie and Hyde are sharing a pizza. They sit in silence for a long time. Jackie says that she understands that Hyde may be having trouble sharing his feelings, but it's okay to let it all out. Hyde, surprisingly, is feeling okay about sitting in companionable silence. Donna goes over to the Formans and tells them she hopes they're happy that they ruined her dad's barbecue. He just wanted one more good day before everyone found out that his store is closing.
Red and Kitty feel terrible and head right over to the Pinciottis to see if there's anything they can do. Eric apologizes to Donna for being such a jerk. He had no idea her dad was in trouble. What's even more bizarre than her dad losing his business, says Donna, is that Jackie and Hyde are out on a date. But when Jackie and Hyde go for a goodnight kiss, neither of them feels anything. Jackie says that Hyde must have been right about them all along.
