When Kitty finds out that Hyde’s eighteenth birthday is coming up, she decides that a party is a must. Hyde thanks her but says he really isn’t into birthdays and doesn’t want a party. Kitty doesn’t miss a beat and consults Jackie and Fez about decorations for the surprise party. Eric, Donna and Kelso that the perfect present for Hyde should be stolen and dirty. A stolen street sign would be great. Bob has agreed to host the surprise party, and Fez and Jackie are brainstorming about decorations. Jackie pitches an Arabian Nights theme complete with veils and Persian rugs. Fez thinks a navy theme would be great. Jackie says it would be terrific if Hyde were in the Village People. Donna, Kelso and Eric find the perfect street sign, High Street but have no luck whatever in pulling it down. Hyde’s suspicious when he sees Kitty baking dozens of cupcakes. Hyde reiterates that he truly doesn’t want a party. Kitty assures Hyde that she’d never do something he doesn’t want; there’s no party. Kelso, Eric and Donna consider blowing up the sign with a firecracker, but it explodes in Kelso’s pocket. Kelso heads to Red’s garage in search of tools. When Red catches him rummaging around, Kelso makes up a ridiculous story about having to saw down a tree to rescue a rabbit that’s stuck there. At Fotohut, Hyde tells Leo he’d be happy to work on his birthday; eighteen is the beginning of the end, a black hole, the death march. If there’s a war, he could be drafted. If there’s a war, says Leo, they can both go to Canada. Jackie and Fez ask Hyde what kind of decorations he’d prefer, and Kitty’s surprise is blown. Hyde says they can give a party, but he won’t be there. When Eric, Kelso and Donna return with Red’s tools, a geeky kid has the sign. He refuses their offer of money, but hands over the sign when Donna offers to flash her bra strap. The next day, at the Pinciottis, the den is decorated with streamers and balloons. There’s party food, punch and a piñata. Unfortunately, Bob ate all the cupcakes. Eric arrives with the news that Hyde’s refusing to come to the party. Red volunteers to go get him and goes over to the Forman basement. Red launches into a pep talk: Hyde’s eighteen, so it’s time he behaves like a man. Sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to do. As long as Hyde’s living under Red’s roof, he’ll obey Red’s wishes. Hyde says since he’s eighteen he probably shouldn’t be living there anymore, but Red assures him he’s welcome indefinitely. Red hopes to save Hyde from the fate of most of Hyde’s male relatives, pumping gas, prison or death. From that perspective, the party doesn’t seem so bad. They go back to the party where Hyde pretends to act surprised. He gratefully accepts the street sign. This one plus his other two gives him a set of three!
