Episode #506 "Over the Hills and Far Away"

SYNOPSIS:

The Formans and Hyde are getting ready for their trip to check out University of Wisconsin. Donna arrives and announces that she isn't going; her dad's making her check out Marquette instead. He thinks it a better school, and it sounds French. Eric tells Red that he should check out Marquette too, but Red says that state schools are cheap. That's where Eric belongs. Donna tells Eric she has a bad feeling about the weekend. Nothing good can come of their visiting different schools, but Eric assures her they can get through anything. Jackie, who's going to Marquette with Donna, reminds Hyde that she's going to be seeing a lot of cute boys. She promises she won't kiss any of them in hopes that Hyde will make a similar promise about the girls at UW, but no promise is forthcoming. Steven simply says, "Good to know." Just as Red's about to pull the car out, Kelso arrives with a note pinned to his jacket. His parents can't make the trip, and they've sent along thirty dollars so he can go with the Formans. At Marquette, Donna tells Jackie she should have gone with Eric; this is stupid! Jackie, who's depressed because she thinks Steven is going to cheat on her, heads off for a cheerleading demonstration to cheer herself up. When they get to UW, Eric, Kelso, Hyde and Fez are greeted by Ted, who's going to show them around. There's going to be a huge dorm party-lots of girls and beer. The guys can't wait. At the party, Hyde gets hit on by a girl named Lisa, but he passes up the chance. Later, he tells Fez that he can't believe he did that. Eric meets a girl, Melanie, who tells him that her boyfriend goes to a different school, and they have a great relationship. It soon becomes clear that Melanie cheats on him at every opportunity. Eric tells Hyde that he was definitely wrong to tell Donna that going to different schools would be okay; if she doesn't hate Marquette, they're screwed. He calls Donna and learns that she actually thinks Marquette is great. Jackie, however, doesn't love Marquette; she's too depressed about what she thinks Steven is doing. Donna says that Jackie is always trying to force people to do things, but she can't do that with a guy like Steven. If Jackie pretends she doesn't care, Hyde will come around. So when Steven reports to Jackie that nothing happened over the weekend, she merely shrugs and says, "Good to know." And, though Eric has resigned himself to their separation, Donna says she's not going to Marquette. She loved it, but she'd be way too far away from Eric.
